Civic Waste collects tonnes of rubbish every day in Wellington, Auckland, and Hamilton. And as is the Civic way, we do it in the most environmentally friendly vehicles. We use rubbish compactor trucks, including our all-electric compactor truck, which creates no fumes, less noise and is leading the way in EV innovation in our industry. Eventually, we’ll add more of these to our fleet that for now also includes hybrid powered trucks, caged trucks and utes, and crane trucks to take care of large and heavy waste that is more difficult to dispose of than the thousands of bins and bags we collect.
Because we are a multi-service provider, we offer additional complimentary services that no other waste collection company can. Our electric bin sanitising truck sanitises wheelie bins, killing all germs and odours before we return it to clients. We can also sweep and steam clean rubbish collection areas to reduce germs and smells onsite.
In Wellington we work for Porirua City Council, disposing of more 1800 tonnes of household rubbish a year. Refuse bags are collected by a customised left-hand drive, low-entry compactor truck servicing 18,000 households. Our team also uses its waste collection expertise and knowledge of recycling by inspecting the council’s household recycling collections during the week. Two Civic inspectors visually check both mixed and glass recycling bins, reporting their findings via a phone app which provides proof of service reporting that the council have live access to. Thanks to a brand-new initiative, our inspectors will be stickering contaminated bins and after three strikes these bins will be removed by us from any offending household. This is to ensure that recycling is being disposed of correctly and that all recyclable materials can actually be used and recycled, rather than recycling plants having to sort through non-recyclables or taking them to landfill.
We also collect waste for Capital & Coast District Health Board. We empty their litter bins daily at Wellington and Kenepuru Hospitals, disposing of more than 1 tonne of waste every year. And we work with CBD businesses to take care of rubbish bin and bag collection.
